Agrostis sp., bent grass
Photo: Virginia Moore
Savannas are typically tropical grasslands ranging from predominantly grass covered plains with a few trees and shrubs scattered about the landscape, to grassy understories with open canopied forests overhead. Annual rainfall in the savanna is usually around 8 inches, most savanna regions not exceeding 16 inches. More precipitation in a given region will allow for the support of more trees.
