Department of Agriculture: United States Crop Harvests are in Full Swing

WASHINGTON, Sept. 14 (UPI) — The U.S. spring wheat crop is 58 percent harvested, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said Monday.

The weekly crop report said the barley harvest was 71 percent completed. Oats in the country’s nine largest oat production states are 93 percent harvested. Twenty-five percent of the rice crop is out of the fields.

Close to the harvest stage, 97 percent of the soybean crop is setting pods. Seven percent have dropped leaves.

In the critical corn crop, 50 percent has reached the dented stage, while 8 percent has been classified as mature, against a five-year average of 23 percent for this week of the year, the USDA said.
