WASHINGTON, May 13 (UPI) — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the voluntary recall of some Bigs-brand salted and roasted sunflower seeds because of a labeling error.
The FDA said Ryt-way Industries LLC of Lakeville, Minn., initiated the recall because the seeds might contain dairy ingredients that weren’t declared on the packaging, posing the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction for people with an allergy or severe sensitivity to dairy products.
The recalled sunflower seeds are packaged in 5.35-ounce plastic bags with “best by” dates of “30MAY2011″ and “31MAY2011.” The FDA said the product was distributed nationwide through supermarkets, convenience stores and U.S. military commissaries.
Consumers allergic to dairy products can return the product for a refund or can contact the company for additional information at 877-722-7556.
