WASHINGTON, Oct. 7 (UPI) — The White House opens its doors Wednesday to science and technology practitioners for recognition by U.S. President Barack Obama for their efforts.
Obama was to deliver remarks and award the National Medal of Science and the National Medal of Technology and Innovation to the 2008 recipients in the East Room, the White House said.
Recipients include members of academia, scientific institutions and industry.
Obama also was to meet with his national security on Afghanistan and Pakistan. Expected attendees include include Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Defense Secretary Robert Gates and other military and diplomatic officials.
