NASA Extends Supercomputing Contract

WASHINGTON, March 30 (UPI) — The U.S. space agency says it is exercising a one-year contract extension option with the Computer Sciences Corp. for supercomputing support services.

Officials said the Lanham, Md., company will provide services at NASA’s Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, Calif., as well as the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., and other NASA facilities as needed.

The two-year base contract is valued at approximately $597 million if its eight one-year options are exercised. The one-year option just invoked is valued at approximately $57 million.

Officials said the company will continue to support the supercomputing services provided by the space agency’s primary high-performance computing facility operated by the NASA Advanced Supercomputing Division at Ames. The division develops and operates some of the largest, most advanced and productive supercomputers in the world, NASA said.
