WASHINGTON, March 24 (UPI) — NASA officials say they have awarded ERC Inc. of Huntsville, Ala., a technology research and development contract at the Ames Research Center in California.

The U.S. space agency said the contract, valued at $45 million, will support the space technology division at the research center located at Moffett Field, Calif. The base contract lasts one year and has three one-year options.

NASA said the Ames Research Center develops technologies used to design and fabricate prototype hypervelocity vehicles that could travel in the atmospheres of Earth and other planetary bodies in the solar system. The office also is responsible for conducting research and development in nanotechnology, materials science, sensors and devices.

Officials said the contract includes a subcontract with Stinger Ghaffarian Technologies Inc. of Greenbelt, Md.
