California's Sheep Fire Contained After Destroying 7,100 Acres

WRIGHTWOOD, Calif., Oct. 11 (UPI) — Firefighters have fully contained a week-long fire in Wrightwood, Calif., that scorched more than 7,100 acres and destroyed five buildings, officials said.

The Sheep fire was contained Saturday as authorities tried to determine the cause of the blaze, which broke out Oct. 3 in brush and timber, the Los Angeles Times reported Sunday.

Mandatory evacuations were lifted Saturday and residents were allowed to return home, alhough the area remained closed to the general public because of hot spots, the U.S. Forest Service said.

Wrightwood is a popular resort area about 70 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
