Strong Earthquake Hits off Japan's Coast

ISHIGAKI, Japan, Feb. 7 (UPI) — No casualties were reported Sunday from a 6.4 magnitude earthquake that struck off the coast of Japan’s Ryukyu Islands, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

The quake hit at 3:10 p.m. Sunday and was centered 10.3 miles deep about 70 miles from the island of Ishigaki and about 140 miles from Taiwan, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said no destructive waves were expected from the quake. There were no immediate reports of injuries or of damage to property.
