Earthquake Shakes Cayman Islands Region

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands, Jan. 19 (UPI) — A 5.8-magnitude earthquake was reported Tuesday in the Cayman Islands region of the Caribbean Sea, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The quake was about 6.2 miles deep, the USGS said.

The tremor occurred about 40 miles east-southeast of George Town, Cayman Islands; 195 miles west-northwest of Montego Bay, Jamaica, about 215 miles south of Cienfuegos, Cuba, and 465 miles south of Miami.
