Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia; Hopes to "Use Position to Help Save Live"

NEW YORK, Nov. 10 (UPI) — Former college and professional basketball great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar says he has a form of blood cancer.

Abdul-Jabbar, 62, one of the game’s greatest-ever players, told CNN Monday: “I have chronic myeloid leukemia.”

Abdul-Jabbar said the condition was diagnosed last December, adding that it hasn’t significantly affected his life. The former 7-foot-2 star for the UCLA Bruins, the Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks said he is publicizing his condition now to bring awareness to the disease.

“I think it’s possible for someone in my position to help save lives,” Abdul-Jabbar told the U.S. broadcaster. “My grandfather died from colorectal cancer, my uncle died from colorectal cancer and my father almost died from colorectal cancer.”

CNN said his awareness that he has the gene for colorectal cancer has led Abdul-Jabbar to get involved with a colorectal cancer awareness campaign in the black community as well as to participating in an NBA sponsored prostate cancer awareness campaign.

  1. Ayurveda: The alternative treatment for leukemia.

There are traditional Ayurveda practitioners (Vaidyas) in India who successfully treat blood cancers with out debilitating negative side effects. It will be to the advantage of newly diagnosed leukemia patients to opt for Ayurveda treatment avoiding chemotherapy and BMT. Remission is amazingly faster, with less chance of relapse. Once cured, they live life to the fullest. Ayurveda Siddha formulations along with marma tantra and prana vidhya are much superior to all other medications in healing different difficult diseases. Intricate course of repeated refining, elaborate processing and enrichment of formulations make these medicines superior and they work in a highly efficient manner. A patient recovering from leukemia under such treatment is like a new physical being, with the body undergoing total regeneration. Maharishis and masters have handed down the Vedic knowledge from generation to generation for thousands of years. I recommend ailing leukemia patients to go Ayurveda treatment by a master practitioner with such a linage of ancient tradition. I am one of them.
As a Vaidya, I am much agonized and concerned about the sufferings and loss of life of millions, especially the children, with modern medicine often failing to cure blood cancer and other cancers. It is my earnest wish to integrate the ancient Indian science of life with CAM research or/and alternative health care programs for the larger benefit of humanity. Also, it is my sincere request to the international scientific community to focus on how these practices that lie outside conventional science may be appropriately utilized.
    Let us save the lives!
