Hi,

I live in Antigua, Guatemala, and am looking to invest in a biodiesel manufacturing plant.  Obviously the main component is feedstock.

If you can convince me that the supply side is secure, then I would fly over to meet with you.

Dear sir,

I have read your invitation for investors. I am working on jatropha project in the Philippines under the sponsorship of Japanese investors since I was hired as consultant. I would be glad if you could send me your 50 pages study paper so i could present them to Japanese group of investors.

Thank you and regards.

Yours truly,

MR. D. S. TABAN

Hi Georges

I work with some investors in Abu Dhabi, UAE, that are seeking investments in renewable energy projects around the world, and are particularly interested in Jatropha.

Please send me a copy of your document for review.

Kind regards
Greg Murray

NURSERY FOR JATROPHA TREES
IN HAITI

PURPOSE OF THE NURSERY

The purpose of the nursery is to facilitate a plantation program on a massive scale and to reduce harvesting time from two (2) years to one (1) year.

It is also to facilitate negotiations since we will have first movers’ advantages and we will have the basis to launch a massive program of plantations and reforestation without delays.

Jatropha seeds take an average of 10 days to germinate, at this point; the small tree is vulnerable to drought, wind and heavy rainfall.  By maintaining, watering and taking care of the small trees, one can assure a success rate of almost 100%..

The goal is to attend production of 800,000 trees monthly equivalent to 9,600,000 trees within the first year of production, capable of planting 3,840 hectares within the first year and supply without interruption enough trees for a plantation of 100,000 hectares as fast as needed.

PRODUCTION CAPACITY

It will take an average amount of 1 year before the nursery becomes fully operational and can respond to a high demand of about 800,000 trees monthly or more.
To accomplish that task, an amount between 11 to 22 hectares is needed and will be divided as follow:
1)      1 hectare of land will be needed to construct a storage house where trucks and tools will be stored. Another storage area for seeds and pans. And a sleeping quarter for the workers that will be onsite to keep all the equipments safe.

2)      5 hectares will be needed to plants these seeds into baskets measuring 10x10x12 inches.  By making an arrangement of these baskets, one can easily plant an average of 160,000 trees per hectares.  With 5 hectares, an amount of 800,000 trees can be produce monthly ready to be transplanted into production fields.

3)      5 hectares will be planted as in a plantation form.  Instead of 2500 trees per hectare, the amount of trees will be planted as follow; every three meters which will give n average amount of 1100 trees per hectare.  The purpose is very simple, these trees will be used to obtain cuttings for the nursery to reduce plantation time, and this move will make us gain an average of 4 months of growing time and plants ready to be replanted.  The space between these plantations will be used to plant these cuttings and ready to be moved to the 800,000 production site within two weeks of plantation.  In addition, this plantation will also produce seeds that will be used for planting thus reducing our cost of buying seeds within the first production.

4)      The remaining 11 hectares are needed for rotations between planting and to maintain the production rate of 800,000 trees monthly.  The amount of trees produce can easily increased from double to triple of the target production if the amount of employees are increased

At a production rate of 800,000 trees per month we can expect a yearly production of jatropha trees of 9,600,000 trees for the first year.
At an arrangement of 2500 trees per hectare for oil and carbon production, the nursery will produce enough trees to plant 3840 hectares yearly

NURSERY SEEDS AND TREES PRODUCTION COST

The annual cost for the employees working at the nursery should be as follow:

15 employees:                         1 Supervisor and 14 laborers

1 Supervisor salary:                 $ 100.00 per month

14 laborers salary:                   $ 700.00 per month

Total monthly salary;              $ 800.00 per month

Total yearly salary:      #          $ 9,600.00 per year

Employee cost for the production of 9,600,000 trees annually should be:
$ 9,600.00 / 9,600,000 trees = $ 0.001 per tree produce

A unit of two of these workers will be assigned to fabricate compost that will be used in the plantation of the seedlings and cuttings.

Additional cost will come as follow:

1)  Land rent yearly:               22 hectares at $ 200.00 =        $ 4,400.00

2) Storage area                                                                        $ 20,000.00

3)  2 used diesel trucks                                                           $ 40,000.00

4)  One 20 KW diesel generator                                             $ 10,000.00

5)  Fuel allowance for 1 year                                                  $ 16,000.00

6)  One 50,000 gallons water storage tank                             $ 10,000.00

7)  Sprinklers installation                                                        $ 5,000.00

8)  Pumps                                                                                $ 5,000.00

9) Manure collection and compost fabrication                       $ 10,000.00

10) Import and customs fees                                                  $ 10,000.00

11) Miscellaneous                                                                   $ 20,000.00

12)  Licenses and fees                                                             $ 10,000.00

13) One reverse osmosis unit                                                  $ 10,000.00

14) Maintenance cost                                                              $ 10,000.00

15) Baskets for planting                                                          $ 50,000.00

Provisional total cost                                                             $ 225,400.00

Total employees and material cost for the first year

$ 225,400.00 + $ 9,600.00 =                                                   $ 235,000.00

Average cost per tree for the first year

$ 235,000.00 / 9,600,000 trees =                                $ 0.0244 per tree produce

Cost for 2nd year

Employees                                                                               $ 9,600.00

Fuel for 1 year                                                                         $ 16,000.00

Manure collection and compost fabrication                            $ 10,000.00

Maintenance cost                                                                    $ 10,000.00

Miscellaneous                                                                          $ 20,000.00

Total                                                                                       $ 55,600.00

Average cost per tree produce for the second year

$ 55,600.00 / 9,600,000 trees =                                  $ 0.005 per tree produce

From the start of the nursery project to full project , 3 month is needed for implementation of the corporation in the Island and 1 year of plantation is needed before full production and capable of deliveries for a plantation of 100,000 hectares.

That time will be used for negotiations with the Government to obtain a minimum of 100,000 hectares of land for lease or as a partnership in the plantation project.

A production capacity of 1.6 metric tons of oil per hectares which is equivalent to 11.6 barrel of oil per hectares and with 100,000 hectares, one can easily calculate that 100,000 hectares of jatropha will bring an average of 1,164,000 barrels of brut jatropha oil per year or 3189 barrel per day
At the present time, Haiti uses 11,000 barrel of oil daily and the production of 100,000 hectares represent barely 1/3 of oil uses in the country.  For Haiti to be self sufficient, an amount of 400,000 hectares will be the ideal for this country to be self sufficient.

Haiti has a per capita carbon production rate of 0.02 and a 0.1 carbon monoxide production.  Additionally carbon is also sequestered in the plant biomass at an estimated rate of 8 t/ha under high density plantations. If 50% of the biomass is carbon
mitigation at the rate of 4t/ha from age 2 onwards can be expected. Emissions of
other gases such as carbon monoxide (50%), hydrocarbons (90%) and particulate
matter dust (30%) are also reduced leading to an improved environment. Other
estimates of carbon abatement indicate reductions of up to 10 t C/ha which is 100
times the present per capita annual emissions of the country. The potential for
carbon abatement is thus high from the plantations and the production of
biodiesel.

For a 100,000 hectares plantation, the total carbon sequestered annually will be an average of 1,000,000 tons. At May 9, 2006 price of 12.33 Euro per ton, the total price will be 12,233,000.00 Euro yearly.

For every 100,000 hectares of plantation added, the amount will double or triple or quadruple.

1,164,000.00 barrel of oil represents about 46,560,000 gallons of biodiesel, at an estimated sale price of $ 1.50 per gallon; the total sale will come to $ 69,840,000.00 per year on a 100,000 hectares plantation.

Additionally, the byproducts of Glycerin can be sold on the international market; Biogas can be obtained from the fermentation of the crushed seeds and compressed.
