WASHINGTON, Oct. 5 (UPI) — The U.S. Department of Agriculture said the winter wheat crop was in step with the five-year historic average, 26 percent emerged as of Oct. 4.
The nation’s crop harvests are under way with spring wheat 97 percent harvested, the soybean harvest 15 percent done and the corn harvest 15 percent done against a five-year average of 25 percent done for this week of the year.
The rice crop in the six largest rice-producing states is 62 percent completed against a historic average of 78 percent for this week of the year.
Ten percent of the country’s cotton crop is harvested. Thirty-five percent of the country’s sorghum crop and 16 percent of the peanut crop is harvested, the USDA said.
