Victoria's Venture
We caught up with Victoria Estok on the campus of UC Davis, where we watched her postering the walls of Freeborn Hall. They were good posters, full of links to atmospheric sites. Now Victoria is at The Hague, participating in the World Climate Summit. Here is her story so far.
Victoria's Venture Update!

Hello,
I'm Victoria Estok one of the 200 U.S. students attending the Climate Summit in the Hague, Netherlands. Forsaking "Thanksgiving" in the states
to observe and try to influence U.S. Delegates to implement the climate change accord drafted in Kyoto, Japan three years ago.
The Kyoto Protocol would take the inital steps in stopping global warming. This would be accomplished through enforcing international environmental laws, thus cutting greenhouse gas emissions from corporate polluters.
Students attending the climate summit will be attending conference negotiations, particpating in direct outside action, nonviolent creative demonstrations, lobbying delegates and a variety of other activities.

The main focus on the U.S.'s responsiblity can be explained simply that we are the main producer of greenhouse gases, contributing 25% while only being 5% of the world population. The U.S. needs to set an example in promoting alternative and renewable energy
sources. An energy revolution is going to happen. A Kyoto Protocol in strong form is the first step that needs to be taken.
Proactive,
Victoria Estok |
