Florida Officials Leaving 8 Foot Alligator in Neighborhood

INDIAN HARBOUR BEACH, Fla., Jan. 19 (UPI) — Residents of a Florida apartment complex say state Fish and Wildlife officials are refusing to remove an 8-foot alligator living in a nearby pond.

People living at Garden Apartments, near Indian Harbour Beach, said Florida Fish and Wildlife officers said they can’t do anything about the gator, which has been spotted wandering the streets and bushes of the neighborhood, unless the reptile demonstrates itself to be a danger to people or their pets, WKMG-TV, Orlando, Fla., reported Tuesday.

Residents said they are concerned the alligator could remain in the neighborhood until it hurts someone.

However, Fish and Wildlife officials said they may be able to take more immediate action against the creature if they receive a call from the owner of the pond.
